Careers in Student Affairs Month – SA Snapshots

October is ‘Careers in Student Affairs Month.’ I thought it would be fun to post some ‘Student Affairs Snapshots’ and showcase some talented SA pros and what they do to change students’ lives.  Let’s make some connections here– I encourage my colleagues and graduate students to participate. Here are some loose guidelines; feel free to blur the lines and interpret as you see fit.

For current student affairs pros:

  1. Provide your name, title, and institution.
  2. Why student affairs?
  3. How long have you been working in student affairs and which functional areas have you worked in?
  4. Describe what you do in one sentence.
  5. Briefly talk about one person who has been instrumental in your career development.
  6. If you ever decided to leave the profession, what would you do?
  7. What is your advice for students interested in student affairs?
  8. Final thoughts?  Anything we missed?

For undergraduate and graduate students:

  1. Provide your name, institution, and position (if applicable)
  2. Why student affairs?
  3. How did your undergraduate experience play a role in your career interests?
  4. What functional areas are you hoping to explore?
  5. Describe student affairs in one sentence.
  6. Final thoughts? Anything we missed?

Please email your written response and a picture or a video response to mallory.bower@gmail.com.  I am hoping this will help graduate students connect with current professionals. If you feel comfortable including your contact information (email, Twitter handle, Linkedin, Facebook, etc.) please do! I will post your snapshots here on my blog and share them with our current and future colleagues.

Looking forward to reading!
